Module 6 ●Troubleshooting and Transitioning to student teaching (5 mins)

If you have any questions or concerns during the YLI semester about any of the following, please contact the Office of School and Community Partnerships at 704-687-8802 or oscp-coed@uncc.edu.

Common troubleshooting topics

  • Communication – YLI failing to communicate with you in a timely manner (i.e., communication about tardies/absences, required coursework assignments, breakdown in communication about any other issues)
  • Difference in management styles/personalities that is impeding communication or relationship building
  • Attendance Issues – YLI not attending your school the equivalent of one day per week or showing up late
  • Lack of involvement – YLI sitting and observing with minimal interaction and involvement in the classroom
  • Failure to meet expectations as outlined in the Student Teaching Handbook
  • Any other questions/concerns that you have about your Student Teacher’s readiness for the full student teaching requirements in the next semester

So What’s Next?

  • Begin with building a relationship with your YLI Exchange contact information and discuss the best times to communicate with each other outside of the classroom.
  • Try to enjoy coaching, modeling, and mentoring your YLI. Be as inclusive as you can in classroom activities and lessons.

Next Steps:

  • A survey will be sent by the Office of Assessment and Accreditation at the midpoint and end of the semester. When you receive it, please respond with your honest feedback.
  • Notify the Office of School & Community Partnerships if there are any concerns.
  • Review dispositions requirements and notify OSCP of any concerns. Our goal is to resolve any issues as soon as possible.
  • We will meet with any YLI and their Clinical Educator if there are any reported concerns and initiate a plan of action to address concerns.

The Office of School and Community Partnerships is excited to partner with you to support the growth and development of Student Teachers who will change our world one student at a time!
